At OH Schultz Elementary school, I run two programs in the library to help increase the community engagement of families with young students as well as the amount of reading they do at a young age. The OH Schultz Summer Library program is an opportunity for families to come to the library throughout the summer to check out books, and do a variety of STEAM focused activities. The 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program encourages families with young children to read early and often. Over the last year, participation in both of these programs has increased. This session will focus on the basics of these programs, including what has worked and what has not to help increase reading and involvement of young families in the Mishicot School District.
